The digital age keeps offering us new and fun ways to share our photos and videos. In the "old days" people used to drag out slide projectors and gather the family and friends to show off vacation, wedding, graduation photos and the like. Then came email and we could send our favorite photos to our family with the click of a button. Then it got even better. Now we can create unique photo shows, add text, music, transitions and special effects with a few clicks of a mouse. Plus we can burn them to CD/DVD or even post them to the web or social sites like MySpace -- no technical knowledge necessary.

I found several good programs for creating photo shows. Once is called, ironically, PhotoShows by Roxio (the makers of the excellent Easy Media Creator and DVD burning software). This is very easy-to-use software for creating animated shows with photos, music, captions, transitions and motion effects. You can even add short video clips. If you lack the "creative" gene, just use one of the 88 One Click templates. You can burn them to CD/DVD, publish them to your own web site or to the free web page you get when you purchase the software. You can also publish your photo show to Facebook or MySpace. The price is right at $39.99. Read the full review of PhotoShows here

Photoshop Elements 6 is also great for photo slide shows. You can create amazing shows with captions, pan and zoom effects, transitions, voice narration, and music. You can also share photos in a variety of interactive web galleries.

I also like Scrapbook Factory Deluxe, which let you create digital scrapbook pages that you can upload to the web as a photo gallery, create a slide show, burn to CD/DVD or email. It comes with 5,000+ scrapbook templates and customizable projects to choose from, thousands of graphics and 1,000 fonts. Get more details and a coupon for $10 off and free shipping through July 1.

PHOTO TIP OF THE MONTH:
How to Use Your Camera's Shutter Speed to take Action Shots and Pictures in Low Light

Your camera opens and closes its shutter to let light in. The length of time the shutter is open is the shutter speed, which is measured in seconds or fractions of seconds. You would use a faster shutter speed in bright light to stop action and get a crisper shot without blurriness. Use a slower speed when there isn't much light. An example of a slow shutter speed is 1 sec. and a fast one is 1/200 sec. If you use a fast shutter speed in low light situations, your photo will come out too dark. You can manually change your camera's shutter speed using the manual control function. If you are using your camera's "scene" settings, be sure to choose the right one for your lighting situation, such as the setting for beach/bright light or for a cloudy day.
