The camera is lightweight yet solid, has a bright 2.5 inch LCD screen and an excellent menu system. The main negative is it produces noise in low light conditions.

SLR

• Canon EOS Rebel XSi - Approx $500 (with standard standard 18mm-to-55mm lens kit)
  A relative bargain for a digital SLR, the Canon EOS Rebel XSi offers lots of features and first rate images with excellent resolution and image quality. The LCD is a generous 3 inches. One con is that the XSi's RAW format is not compatible with some image-editing software, including Photoshop CS2. You can download plugins for CS3 as well as ACDSee.
  
  
• Nikon D300 - Approx $1650
  The Nikon D300 is an outstanding SLR with loads of top-notch features and excellent image quality. It has a 3-inch LCD with 170-degree view,, active-D lighting and 51-point auto focus. At approx $1650, it is quite expensive, but is worth the money for the outstanding images it produces. The camera has two lives views and an excellent menu format.
