Happy New Year!
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and holiday and I wish you the best in 2011.
Get Your Photos Organized in 2011
Did you go to take pictures at Christmas and find you still have your summer photos filling up your memory card? You are surely not the only one to get behind! Organizing our photos can be overwhelming when we get a big backlog. Here are some tips on making it less of a chore.
1. Transfer your photos to your computer and put them into folders by year/month or year/event. If you have photo software such as Photoshop Elements, ACDSee Photo Manager or Corel Paintshop Pro, you can tag them with keywords such as "Jack 10th birthday" or "vacation South Carolina." This will make finding specific photos much easier later on.
2. Make a 2010 Year in Review album. It doesn't have to cover everything, just pick some of your favorite photos highlighting the year and either print them and put them in an album, make a photo collage for your wall with some small frames or a collage frame, or create a photo book online using Shutterfly, Kodak Gallery or my new favorite, Mixbook. DEAL: Photoworks has a buy 1 photo book get 1 free offer and similar offers on calendars, cards and prints thru Jan 12.
3. Focus on one event or project. Too many photos to even try to organize a year in review? Instead, pick an event, such as Christmas, summer vacation, your child's birthday, or the kids' sports activities and make a photo book, album or collage of that one event or theme. Just getting that done will feel like you accomplished something -- and you did!
4. Schedule some time to organize your photos. When you look back on that cool collage you created you'll be glad you did. Just like with exercise, if we don't schedule ourselves the time and then stick with it, it's too easy to let other things get in the way. Speaking of which, I'm off to my scheduled yoga class.
