Version 5 of Adobe Photoshop Elements

- New Editing Commands: Adjust
Color Curves Command is a tool for adjusting color and
contrast. Adobe has simplified this Photoshop tool to make
it more user friendly for Elements users. There are similar
tools for giving you excellent control in creating rich
black-and-white conversions, correcting camera lens distortions
with the new Correct Camera Distortion command, and
sharpening blurred edges using the Adjust Sharpness
command.
- Artwork and Effect Palette
Scrapbookers will appreciate this new palette, which
allows you to apply, backgrounds, themes, styles, effects,
frames and graphics to your project and you can even add
your own custom content to the palette.
- Flexible Layout Options
Scrapbookers will also like the new flexible layout options
that you can edit, rearrange, and resize. Select from a
blank page to basic frames, or professionally designed themes.
- Interactive Maps
This fun new tool lets you create interactive maps to
connect photos with where they were taken (works with United
States addresses only), You can upload your map to the web
for easy sharing. Our only complaint is that the map-plotting
feature can be a little slow.
- Flipbooks
Quickly turn a series of still photos into a Flipbook. For
example, take a sequence of action shots on your digital
camera, and then use Photoshop Elements to put them together
to create a sense of motion.
- Animate Photos
Share your photos with Flash technology. Choose from a selection
of animated galleries imcluding a book with pages that turn.
- Other New Features:
Save multiple-page image files in the new Adobe proprietary
PSW file format; automatic red eye removal while
downloading; enhanced support for working with raw files-—Photoshop
Elements now supports a greater selection of digital camera
models; built-in photo services that let you upload
photos and photo projects to the web, order prints, and
gifts from within Photoshop Elements; back up capabilities
to back up your photo collection online, on CD, or both.
Other Comments
Some people complained that there was no
undo/redo button in this version. However, using the History
palette you can revert to a previous version, just like in
Photoshop CS.

Photoshop Elements 5 is still the
premier photo editing and organizing program. The wonderful
new features combined with the already-excellent photo editing,
organizing and sharing features are fun and easy to use. If
you haven't upgraded your photo software lately, we highly
recommend this program.
