Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10 Review
Microsoft
Digital Image Suite 10
A good program for beginners,
this software combines Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10 and
Microsoft Digital Library 10 into one software program. This
allow you to find, archive, edit and share your pictures with
one program. The Digital Library can scan your hard drive
for photos and you can upload images directly from your camera.
Digital Library allows you to sort thumbnails by keywords
you define, or by date, file size and type, as well as by
1 through 5-star ratings that you can assign. A nice feature
of Digital Image Suite 10 is you can catalog images without
copying them to your hard drive - a great space saver. However,
it does not offer much organization for your keyword list,
so you could end up with a really long alphabetical list,
which can be awkward if you have a lot of keywords.
A new feature of Digital
Image Suite 10 is Photo Story, which lets you create
a video slide show of your photos and add music and narration.
For editing, Digital Image Pro uses a task
pane that walks you through options rather than a tool bar
and palettes, which makes it easy for beginners but a little
frustrating for more experienced users. Digital
Image Suite 10 has lots of automated correction tools
such as for fixing crooked images, as well as some manual
correction tools like Adjust Levels for controlling shadows,
highlights and midtones. Version 10 offers some new Auto Fix
commands to adjust color and exposure, plus more sophisticated
tools for manually adjusting Levels and Curves. You can also
perform batch operations such as rotate images. The "Done"
button you're prompted to click after using tools can get
a little annoying.
Digital Image Suite
10 provides templates for a variety of printing options
as well as for calendars and brochures.
Although Digital Image Pro can create animated
GIFs, but it is not strong on advanced web output like web
galleries or mouse-overs.
Overall, Microsoft
Digital Image Suite 10 is easy to use with an intuitive
interface, has very good editing tools and an outstanding
photo archiving tool. What is especially nice about Digital
Image Suite 10 is that it has stronger editing capabilities
than some of the other organizer programs, which makes it
a good all-in-one product.
