Review: SendPhotos
Fun and Easy Photo Sharing, Emailing
For
a lot of people, the ability to share their photos
with others is the main reason they bought a digital camera
in the first place. But the problem for some is exactly HOW
do they share their pictures? Depending on your e-mail program,
sharing photos may be easy or a little tricky, especially
since you need to reduce the size of your images so they don't
bog down your e-mail, or your recipients. This is a particular
issue for dial-up internet users.
One of the simplest solutions I've found is a neat little
program called SendPhotos.
And it does exactly that. Quickly, easily, intuitively and
with a variety of fun borders, backgrounds, stationery and
layouts.
SendPhotos 5 is great for people who want an easy-to-use
photo sharing program without having to learn a lot of complicated
features. While it comes with an extensive Users Guide, the
software is so straightforward you probably won't need it.
When you open the program, SendPhotos automatically
finds your My Pictures file and you simply
select the images you want to send, type in your e-mail message,
add captions to the photos if desired, and choose a layout,
border, stationery and background.
The beauty of the program is that your photos and captions
are embedded within the body of the e-mail, not in separate
attachments your recipients have to click one at a time.
There is also a built-in editing program to adjust exposure,
remove red eye and crop images. The editor uses a copy of
your image and your original is left intact.
SendPhotos gives you the option of sending your message
and photos from Outlook or Outlook Express or with its own
e-mail program. It works with most e-mail programs including
AOL (Version 8.0 or higher), Yahoo, Hotmail, Eudora and Netscape.
You can control the file size of the images that are sent
by adjusting the compression (keeping in mind that the larger
the file the better the quality, but the slower to upload/download).
The software is especially handy for dial-up internet users.
Photos upload/download up to 25 times faster than on traditional
dial-up.
You can also upload your photos as a web page to your own
(free) photo album blog, print your photos on your home printer,
or upload them to a local online photo finisher (via SendPhoto's
network of affiliated printers) and your photos will either
be delivered or available for instore pickup, depending on
the retailer.
A new feature of version 5 is the ability to schedule automatic
uploads so your photos are always backed-up online and on
your PC -- you get 2 GB of free storage.
If you like to e-mail photos to share them with friends and
family, and need an easy-to-use, fun program, SendPhotos
is a great choice.
