StudioLine
Photo 3, a new upgrade from Studioline 2 from H &
M System Software, is innovative editing, organizing and archiving
software with a nonstandard interface that may take getting
used to, but once you do, you will find it invaluable.
StudioLine Photo
3 editing and enhancement tools and filters allow you to make
unlimited edits and different versions of an image without
altering the original source file, so it is impossible to
accidentally overwrite it. All changes are made immediately,
without dialog boxes to accept or reject them, but you can
undo them with multiple undos or go back to a prior version.
This may seem strange at first, but StudioLine Photo 3 automatically
stores your edited versions and you can go back any time to
edit an image in any of its versions. You may wonder if this
creates a huge drain on your storage space. Luckily, StudioLine
maintains these different versions in a special processing
stack without creating redundant copies of the image file,
enabling you to save valuable disk space.
Editing capabilities
in StudioLine Photo 3 include a fair number of filters for
special effects, cropping, zooming, rotating, color correcting
and batch processing. StudioLine Photo 3 has easy drag-and-drop
features for applying the same effects to multiple photos.
It's red-eye removal tool even fixed that funny yellow glow
my dog's eyes get.
StudioLine's organizing
capabilities are especially strong. New features in this upgrade
version include:
- New Customizable User Interface - Offers
ability to resize, move, dock or hide panes
- XML Format for Exchanging Data with Other
Applications - export metadata in XML format to simplyfy
the exchange of image descriptors with other applications
- Backup Reminders - A new backup assistant
can remind you in regular intervals (that you can specify)
to backup your images and launch the appropriate backup
task.
- Expanded Database Search by Time Spans
- intuitive controls can restrict the search to a certain
time.
- Search and Replace - helpful for correcting
spelling mistakes or
to standardize similar keywords.
When organizing your
images, you are not limited to the folder hierarchy on your
hard drive, and there are many options for keywords, captions
and notes. There is also a slide show generator and web photo
gallery generator. You can also easily archive your images
by burning to CD or DVD and e-mail them with a couple clicks.
On-screen hints and tutorials guide you
along the way, but the software does take a little time to
learn. A printed guide comes with the boxed version. All in
all, StudioLine 3 is a versatile piece of software for new
and experienced users. Rating:
out of 5. Download
