 I've
always found Ulead's photo software products to be
both powerful and user friendly. Their latest release, Ulead
PhotoImpact 11, is no exception. Ulead PhotoImpact 11
is suitable for beginning photographers as well as advanced
photography users, and there are some great new features that
are sure to make this software even more popular.
Among the new features of PhotoImpact 11
are a redesigned, customizable User Interface with a new look
and feel. There is a flexible new My Workspace with
five customizable modes so you can adjust your workspace to
fit the type of project you are working on, such as standard
photo mode, graphics mode and web mode. Ulead has also enhanced
the dockable panels. You can lock together frequently used
palettes and panels. These are great features, though people
upgrading will find it takes a little while to get used to
the new interface. New users will like it right away.
New Features Include:
- Object Extraction Wizard -
you can extract part of an image and paste it into another
photo. For example, you can extract an image of your friends
at the beach and put them into a ski photo. To do this,
paint around the edges of your subject, click on the background,
extract it and place where you want.
- SmartCurves - New automatic image
adjustment that compensates for camera curve irregularities
to give you quality tonal corrections.
- SmartRemove Scene Compositor -
Allows you to selectively paint out moving elements such
as moving people, or create your own unique shots by creating
a crowd.
- The photo browser has been enhanced
to increase the speed. It only rescans images if they have
been edited since the last time the file was opened, so
when you open the file next time you will see all your pictures
instantly.
Other Editing Features
Ulead® Photo Explorer 8.6, included
with PhotoImpact 11, provides intuitive browsing and batch
conversion of RAW files. Enhanced 16-bit editing allows for
a range of automatic and manual processing tools to adjust
color and correct images in high-quality 48-bit color depth.
There are corrections for chromatic aberration, white balance
and enhanced color cast correction. Other features include
new layer masks, a Match Background Color function, 2D/3D
text, path and text with borders. The improved one-click red
eye remover even works to remove the odd yellow/green shades
from pets' eyes. Make one-click auto adjustments to brightness
& saturation, color, focus, straighten, crop, enhance
and contrast. There are 14 retouching tools including a touchup
tool to remove blemishes and other undesirable details, and
11 photo filters for special effects.
Web and Video Features, Photo Sharing
Users who want to put their projects
on the web will like the new Javascript effects, such as cascading
menus, rollovers, and scrolling text and easy web page creator.
You can now save images for video with transparent alpha-channel
layers. There is a new DVD library with backgrounds, buttons
and frames. For easy sharing, PhotoImpact 11 automatically
optimizes images and exports them as attachments to your e-mail
program.
Printing
Print options include Print Multiple,
Print Poster, and there are 200 Preset Layouts.
